Dorothy E. (Hazard) Nelson was born June 10, 1927 at Leeds, Wisconsin, to Raymond & Caren (Nelson) Hazard. She was the 2nd daughter in a family of 6 boys & 2 girls. She passed away on April 15, 2017 at the age of 89, at Parkview Care Center in Osborne, KS with her children at her side.
Dorothy graduated from Poynette High School in 1943. She attended Philadelphia Church Bible School for 1 year. She then went to Minneapolis, Minnesota to attended North Central Bible College.
On Feb. 7, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage to John Melvin Nelson. They adopted 2 children. While John was pastoring in a church, they lived in Oakley, KS, Smith Center, KS, Arcata, CA & South San Francisco, CA. When they moved back to Smith Center in 1977, she worked at the Bethesda Care Center as a secretary & later in Social Services. After John retired from pastoring, they moved to Osborne, KS in 2003.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John on Sept. 16, 2015; siblings: Nina Moehlmann, Jared, Howard, Don, Robert, Ronald & Byron Hazard. She is survived by a daughter, Carleen (Doug) Knoll of Osborne & son, Hubert (Sherry) of Bentonville, Arkansas; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alice Hazard of Poynette, Wisconsin.
